Thank you for your interest in becoming involved as a Girls on the Run coach!

Coaches should have/be:

  • Genuine interest in leading a healthy life.
  • Interest in physical fitness or running.
  • Commitment to the mission of GOTR.
  • Reliable, honest and positive outlook on life.
  • Interest in the issues facing young women today.
  • Desire to get involved in an empowering nonprofit organization and help create public awareness.

HEAD COACHES must:

  • Be female and at least 21 years of age.
  • Submit the following clearances if you are a new head coach or it has been over two years since you last volunteered as a GOTR head coach:
    • PA State Criminal Background Check https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
    • PA Dept of Human Service Child Abuse Clearance https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home 
    • FBI Fingerprinting Check (through Dept. of Human Services)
        • Go to pa.cogentid.com
        • Select Department of Human Services (DHS) on the main page of the website.
        • Select Register Online under the Registration section.
        • The cost is currently $25.75 to be paid with a  credit or debit card at the time of registration.
        • You are only required to complete the fields highlighted in yellow.   No social sec. # required.
        • For the section titled Reason Fingerprinted please select the reason of: significant likelihood of regular contact with children.
        • Print your registration form and take it and a valid id to your preferred fingerprinting location
        • If your record is clear, a blue form from the Dept. of Human Services in the mail within 2-4 weeks.
        • Copy or scan/email this form to us for your file.
  • Have current CPR and First Aid certifications or become certified before the season starts.
  • Participate in 1 – 1.5 hour online training (ALL coaches who have not completed this yet ).
  • Attend a 4.5 hour in-person Girls on the Run training session (ALL coaches including returning coaches, except those trained in August-September 2016).
  • Attend 1 pre-season and 2 mid-season coaches’ meetings.
  • Prepare for and supervise 20 lessons consistent with the GOTR philosophy and curriculum.
  • Plan and coordinate your team’s end of season celebration party.
  • Run with the girls in the 5k Run/Walk on Sunday, May 21st at Hartwood Acres.

ASSISTANT COACHES must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Submit the following clearances if you are a new assistant coach or it has been over one year since you last volunteered as a GOTR coach:

JUNIOR COACHES must:

  • Be in high school but less than 18 years of age.
  • Provide a non-parent letter of recommendation.
  • Attend a one day Girls on the Run training session (NEW junior coaches only).

Head and Assistant coaches receive a Girls on the Run Coach shirt and are invited to an annual Coach appreciation event.
