Yes. It is the mission of Girls on the Run of Magee-Womens Hospital (GOTR-Magee) to offer our program to all girls who desire to participate, regardless of their financial status. Families who are unable to pay the program registration fees will be awarded financial assistance based on their income. In the past year, GOTR-Magee provided more than $60,000 in scholarships. Our goal is to never turn a girl away for financial reasons.
Any registered Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole participant is eligible for a scholarship. Families requesting financial assistance through the online registration process will be prompted to provide their annual household income as well as the number of people living in the household. This information will be used in order to provide the family with a suggested fee. Special circumstances are also considered. GOTR-Magee requires a completed scholarship application for any families who cannot afford the minimum $10 fee and are requesting a FULL scholarship.
No, the program fee each individual pays is used to cover the costs of the program for that individual girl. In the past year, it cost $195.00 per girl to run the program. Program fees are subsidized through the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations and grants. Many families choose to make a donation to the scholarship fund in addition to paying for their child’s program fee. GOTR-Magee appreciates the generosity of parents and other individuals who help make our scholarship program possible by donating during program registration, online or by participating in fundraisers.
Yes. If your PTO/PTA or school would like to help subsidize the program fee for your participants please contact our office for more information.
We do not offer a sibling discount, however, if a family has more than one daughter/girl participating in Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole, they can utilize the scholarship program if needed to pay an affordable amount for the siblings.
Online payment by credit card is the preferred option (all major credit cards are accepted). Checks and money orders made out to Girls on the Run-Magee are also accepted and a payment code for online registration can be provided upon request from our office. Checks must be received within 5 business days in order to hold your daughter/girl’s registration spot.
Yes. If parents would like to pay the program fee in 2 installments, they will be able to make a partial payment via credit card or check and should contact our office for a payment code to register online with a partial payment. GOTR-Magee will then send a reminder/payment due letter for the second payment halfway through the season.
Yes. However, coaches are welcome to utilize the scholarship and payment plan options for their daughters if the family is unable to pay the fee. Additionally, coaches will have the opportunity to “lock-in” their daughters during an early registration period.
The girl’s parent/guardian (not the coach) is responsible for contacting GOTR-Magee if their daughter is dropping from the program before the season starts. GOTR-Magee will issue a full refund (minus a $10 processing fee) if a girl withdraws from the program before the season starts. No refunds will be given after the first week of the program.
Payment, or full scholarship application (code provided to hold your registration spot while completing and submitting the application), is due at the time of registration. When the lottery is run, those selected and awarded a spot will then be charged and those not awarded a spot will not be charged. The registration confirmation email will provide additional details.
If paying by check, payment must be received within 5 business days to hold your daughter/girl’s spot.
Yes, GOTR-Magee is a non-profit organization. GOTR-Magee is a council of Girls on Run International (GOTRI), and an affiliate program of Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC. GOTR-Magee does not receive financial support from GOTRI. Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC provides in-kind support for GOTR-Magee. GOTR-Magee pays dues to GOTRI in order to deliver the program to the girls in Southwestern PA.
GOTR-Magee highly encourages each girl to have a running buddy at the 5k event. The running buddy’s race registration fee is not included in the program registration fee. Whether it’s a parent, relative, neighbor or friend who runs with the participant at the race, they are expected to register for the 5k, which costs $25 for early registration and $30 for late registration. Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole participants’ race registration is included in the program fee.
