Start a Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole Team in Your Community

Girls on the Run-Magee operates over 90 team sites each year in Western Pennsylvania.  These sites, typically within schools or community centers, host self-contained teams of 2-4 coaches and 8-15 girls. Sites that host 3rd-5th grade girls are “Girls on the Run” teams, while sites that host 6th-8th grade girls are “Heart & Sole” teams.  They are established by dedicated individuals, known as Site Liaisons, who are committed to making a difference in the lives of girls in their communities. Girls on the Run-Magee provides the coach training, program registration, curriculum, program materials, t-shirts and 5K events, but we rely on our Site Liaisons to coordinate with the hosting facility, promote the program for that location and recruit coaches from their community. We want girls to have the opportunity to participate in Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole wherever they live and encourage you to become a Site Liaison.

If you are interested in launching a team in your community and would like more information, please read our Setting up a Site 2017-2018 guide, attend the next bi-monthly info session (details above) or contact one of the staff (details below).

Ready to register your site for Fall 2017?  Please register here.  Deadline for Fall 2017 season has been extended to Wednesday, August 9th.

Become a Coach

Warm-up your heartstrings, lace up your sneakers and inspire a group of girls to be strong and healthy. Teams of volunteer coaches facilitate our easy to follow curriculum with groups of 8-15 girls over the course of 10 weeks. Amidst the conversation, laughter, hugs and energy awards, you will witness transformational change in the girls. Don’t be surprised if you realize that you are positively changing as well! The program may end in 10 weeks, but for our coaches and girls, the finish line is just the beginning. Ready to make a difference and encourage girls to realize their full potential?

Raise Funds as a SoleMate

The Girls on the Run SoleMates program provides people an opportunity to raise money for Girls on the Run-Magee while training for the athletic event of their choice. SoleMates set personal goals such as running in a marathon or 10k event to raise money for Girls on the Run in their community. Each year, our SoleMates raise critically needed funds that ensure our councils are able to serve more girls in their communities.

Support Us as a Sponsor

We are grateful to many corporations, small businesses, foundations and non-profit community partners who support us through their investments in our Girls on the Run-Magee council. Together we create a community where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.  We invite you to join us in our mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Volunteer at the 5K

Ready. Set. Go! Lace up your sneakers, put on your GOTR gear and get ready for a 5k experience unlike any other. The excitement in the air is palpable as the girls meet their teammates, get their pictures taken, chant “Girls on the Run is so much fun” and squeeze in a final energy award before heading to the starting line.

Girls on the Run-Magee needs enthusiastic people to help on both race day, as well as prior to the 5K weekend. Volunteers are needed in areas such as packet stuffing, set-up, water stations, raffle and more!
